Ville Lehtomäki presented “Validation of 4 different wind atlases for Finland” at WindFinland 2021 seminar on 8th December 2021 in Helsinki. An accurate wind atlas is one of the most important data sources in project development of new wind farm sites.

“We validated all 4 available wind atlases with 19 met mast measurements all over Finland being the largest validation study for Finland ever presented. The results showed that the Kjeller wind atlas was the most accurate at 2.8 % uncertainty regarding long-term average wind speed. This low uncertanity means that the Kjeller wind atlas is nearly as accurate as met mast measurements which is a remarkable achievement! With a validated and accurate wind atlas, it is possible to save tens of thousands of euros per project.” says Lehtomäki.
