Solar Resource Assessments
Norconsult, in cooperation with Kjeller Vindteknikk, offers tailored Solar Resource Assessments designed to meet a wide range of project needs. Accurate data means better decisions, lower risk, and stronger returns.
Climate datasets readily available in simulation software for solar power systems are often imprecise due to the relatively low number of meteo stations and inaccurate satellite data at high latitudes. Our Site-specific datasets address these challenges by incorporating a combination of data from satellites, numerical weather model and meteo stations.
Why Long-Term Correction Matters
The irradiance received by a site varies from year to year, and consequently it is necessary to long-term correct any modelled data such that they better reflect local solar conditions at the site (Manajit, Habte, Wilbert, Gueymard, & Remund, 2021). Using Norconsult’s site adaptation methodology, we:
- Identify relationships between measured data and long-term reference datasets
- Apply these relationships to create long-term solar conditions for the site
- Generate a site-adapted Typical Meteorological Year (TMY) for accurate energy yield assessments
Reducing Uncertainty, Improving Profitability
Climate data is directly linked to energy generation which is key to a project’s financial performance. By site-adapting the long-term time series for the site from a satellite data source with the Norconsult method using the measured data from the site, uncertainty in the climate data and subsequent EYA estimates and project profitability are reduced.
