Client: African Transmission Corporation Ltd (ATC)
Period: 2022 - 2027
Zimbabwe is a country with a great need for new energy production. Thanks to its excellent solar resources and strong commitment to sustainable development, Zimbabwe also has an immense renewable energy potential. In line with national and regional energy development policies, African Transmission Corporation (ATC) is investing in projects that will strengthen energy security, support economic growth, and contribute to regional development goals.

Norconsult is proud to partner with ATC as Owner’s Engineer on three landmark solar projects that will add more than 170 MW of clean energy capacity to the grid:

  • Centragrid – Zimbabwe’s first large-scale solar SAT plant. Located in Nyabira, the power plant is already feeding clean power into the grid.
  • Centrachine – One of the largest solar PV projects in Zimbabwe, designed to deliver clean and reliable power for Afrochine ferrochrome smelter, the country’s largest electricity consumer, located in Selous.
  • Centrawest – A project consisting of two sub-projects providing clean and reliable power to PPC Zimbabwe’s cement factories in Bulawayo and Colleen Bawn.

In Norconsult’s capacity as Owner’s Engineer Norconsult has provided technical advisory, design review, quality assurance, and construction monitoring to ensure these projects meet international standards and deliver long-term value.
Close collaboration with ATC’s team has been essential to achieving progress and building solutions that benefit communities and industries.

Shared Impact

Together, these projects will:

  • Increase access to clean, reliable energy by adding over 170 MW of clean energy capacity, reducing reliance on fossil fuels and supporting grid stability.
  • Power key industries, including ferrochrome smelting and cement production, which are vital for Zimbabwe’s economic growth.
  • Create jobs and build local expertise, fostering sustainable development.
  • Contribute to climate resilience and regional energy integration, supporting the Southern African Power Pool and SADC’s energy objectives.

By working together, ATC and Norconsult are helping Zimbabwe harness its renewable potential and advance broader development goals, including affordable energy, industrial growth, and sustainable communities.

We sincerely thank African Transmission Corporation for the continued trust and collaboration, and we look forward to building on this strong partnership in the years ahead.
